The full form of keto diet is Ketogenic diet, which is a high fat and low carbohydrate diet that has many health advantages. Not only does this diet help in losing that extra kilos, it is also beneficial for your health.

As the keto diet is a low carbohydrate diet, when you are on this diet your body will run out of blood sugar. Then your body will start to break down the stored fat and protein to use them as the source of energy. This metabolic state is called ketosis. Your body may take 3 to 4 days to step into ketosis, and this will help you lose weight.

There are several types of ketogenic diets, such as:

  • Standard ketogenic diet: The standard diet contains 70% of fat, 20% of protein and 10% of carbs.
  • Clinical ketogenic diet: an example of a clinical ketogenic diet is, a 7 day diet consists of 5 ketogenic days and 2 high carbs days.
  • High protein ketogenic diet: This diet is quite similar to the standard ketogenic diet but this diet includes 60% of fat, 35% of protein and 5% of carbs.

However, the standard ketogenic and high protein ketogenic diet is the most common method of keto diet. And the other types of keto diet is generally for the use of athletes and bodybuilders.

The first few days of this diet can be a little challenging, it will get easier after a few days. So, what foods should be added to this diet? You can find the fat, carbs and protein percentage on the food labels. You can find several websites presenting healthy yet tasty keto-friendly recipes, which you can follow to add on your keto diet. When you do not have sufficient time for cooking, opt for healthy frozen keto meals.

Ketogenic diet is mainly ideal for those who are planning to lose weight. Also, this diet can be helpful for diabetic patients and for those who want to boost their metabolic health. Consult with your doctor to understand what eating plan and goal you should have, if you are opting for a keto diet.
