Posted By Suborna Fermi Posted on Aug 19, 2023

Most of us eagerly wait for the monsoon season, because it gives us relief from the hot and humid summer weather. Monsoon may seem very calm and relaxing with a cup of tea on the balcony, but this season also brings a wide range of maladies. From dengue to viral infection, here are a few ways in which you can stay healthy during the monsoon.

6 ways to stay healthy in the rainy season

  • Try to drink boiled or clean water: There is a high chance that water may get contaminated during the monsoon season which can raise your chances of getting waterborne diseases or infections. Therefore, it is best to drink clean and purified water during this season. If one does not have a water purifier at home, you can still purify the water by boiling it.
  • Make sure there is no stagnant water around your home: Monsoon is one of the main seasons when the rate of mosquito-borne diseases increases. Stagnant water is the main place where mosquitoes lay eggs which become adult mosquitoes in just five days. This is why it is important to make sure there is no standing water around your home. And if there is any stored water in your house, do not forget to keep them covered to prevent mosquito breeding. Also make sure there is no stagnant water in your locality.
  • It is better to avoid junk or street foods: Not only in monsoon, generally, limiting junk foods is an essential step to stay healthy and fit. However, especially in monsoon it is better to avoid street foods that are kept openly. Openly kept foods may contain toxic micronutrients which can then contribute to several viral infections.
  • Make sure to wash the fruits or vegetables before eating: not only in this season, it is always necessary to thoroughly wash the vegetables or fruit in running water before cooking. There are so many micro germs in the skin of the vegetables and fruits, this is why you should also avoid salad or cut fruits from street food stalls. And it is also a wise choice to eat home cooked foods during the rainy season.
  • Get some good quality sleep: Getting good quality sleep is extremely important for our body to recover. Lack of sleep weakens your immune system which makes you more prone to contracting viruses. This is why it is necessary to have at least six to eight hours of sleep to boost your immune system.
  • Do not forget to wash your hands: Because of the deadly covid-19, nearly all of us have the good habit of washing or cleaning our hands frequently. And not only the covid-19, washing hands frequently can prevent you from getting several viral infections. Therefore, make sure to wash your hands with soap and water more often. Also, you can use an alcohol based sanitizer to clean your hands.

Apart from these, it is also important to make sure you are not getting soaked in rain too often. Because in monsoon it is very likely to get wet. This is why make sure to carry a small or foldable umbrella whenever you are going outside.
