Everything you need to know about your health and air pollution

As the world is progressing, the level of air pollution is also increasing at the exact rate. Air pollution highly affects the beauty of nature as well as the health of people. Diseases caused by air pollution is one of the most common causes of death around the world, nearly 7 millions of cases reported per year.

When the air contains a high level of toxic air pollutants, it is called polluted air. This eventually causes many diseases to the people. Breathing in the harmful pollutant filled air can cause asthma, chronic pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and even heart cancer.

Most importantly, if you are living in the metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and others, then it is a necessity to keep checking on your health. Because, as we know, living or working near the roadways where traffic and factory numbers are huge, will make exposure to the air pollutants more. This is why it is important to check on your health more frequently, if you live in metro cities.

So now the question is, what tests should you refer to check on your health? Here are certain tests, which you should go through to check on your health.

  • Chest X-ray: Chest X-ray is basically an imaging test of your chest. The images of the chest will help your doctors to detect if there are any abnormalities in your heart, lungs, blood vessels and bones.
  • Pulmonary function test: A pulmonary function test is a set of different tests which will help you to analyze whether your lung is working properly. This test will help your doctors to detect lung cancer, asthma, emphysema, lung fibrosis, asbestosis, and chronic bronchitis.
  • Hemogram test: The hemogram test is the combination of Complete Blood Count and Electrolyte Sedimentation rate. This test is basically preferred to detect leukemia, anemia, any infection, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic vasculitis, polymyalgia rheumatica, temporal arteritis, and inflammation present in the body.
  • Lipid profile test: Lipid panel or profile test is a very common group of tests, which helps to understand if you are at a risk of having heart disease. This profile test measures the cholesterol and triglycerides level in your blood.

Aside from all these tests, you might need to go through Vitamin D and Vitamin C tests as well. As you know, air pollution affects our respiratory and cardiovascular system very wretchedly, this is exactly why you should have regular diagnostic tests to detect the presence of any disease early.
