What is the VDRL (RPR) Test?
The purpose of the VDRL test is to detect whether you have syphilis. This test checks for antibodies in response to antigen produced by the bacteria. Knowingly, the VDRL test is reasonable.
When to get tested?
You doctor will suggest you to take this test, if you have early symptoms including,
- A rash that does not itch
- small painless sore
- Swelling in lymph nodes
VDRL test cost is very low.
Sample collection
A blood sample will be collected. You can book a VDRL test online.
Test preparation
No preparation is needed. However, if your syphilis has spread to your brain, your doctor may choose to test spinal fluid instead of blood.
Result Interpretation
If your test result shows negative, then it means you don't have syphilis. If your test result shows positive for syphilis antibodies, then possibly you have syphilis. However your doctor will give you more tests to confirm. The VDRL test can be inaccurate. Besides, if you have any of these, for example, HIV, malaria, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lyme disease, then your test can show a false-positive result. Find a VDRL test near you to get your test done.
