How is an ear CT performed?

You will need to lie down on a table that slides down the round-shaped CT scan machine. The machine takes multiple images of the ear at different angles. You will need to lie still during the whole test procedure. You might be given a contrast agent through an intravenous line in your hand, which helps provide better-quality pictures.

What does an abnormal CT ear result indicate?

An abnormal result of CT ear may indicate a range of conditions, such as:

• Edema
• Hemorrhage
• Enlarged vestibular aqueduct
• Cochlear aplasia or hypoplasia
• Otosclerosis
